ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024

The 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup will be the ninth edition. It takes place every alternate year and is organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament's hosting responsibility is divided among the West Indies and the United States and is planned to begin on 1st June 2024 and end on 29 June 2024. 

This will be the first time the United States will host an International cricket event, and everyone hopes this is the time they will enter the world. With England being the defending champions and Pakistan runner-ups of the last edition, watching who will be the next T20 World Cup Champion will be thrilling.

ICC T20 Men’s World Cup Winners

The T20 World Cups have been organized by the International Cricket Council since 2007. The event is organized every two years. There have been eight editions of the T20 World Cup so far. 

  • India won the 2007 event, which South Africa hosted.

  • Pakistan won the 2009 event, which England hosted.

  • England won the 2010 event, which West Indies hosted.

  • West Indies won the 2012 event, which Sri Lanka hosted.

  • Sri Lanka won the 2014 event, which Bangladesh hosted.

  • West Indies won the 2016 event, which India hosted.

  • Australia won the 2021 event, which UAE Oman hosted.

  • England won the 2022 event, which Australia hosted.

ICC T20 Men’s World Cup Teams

The tournament will be played between 20 teams, extending 16 teams in the 2022 T20 World Cup. The eight teams from the last T20 World Cup automatically qualified for this one, along with the two hosts. 

The next two teams qualified from the ICC Men’s Cricket team rankings, and the remaining eight were chosen from the regional cricket matches qualifying process. Two teams would be selected from Africa, Asia, and Europe, while one would be chosen from the Americas and the East Asia-Pacific groups. The ICC released the qualifying rounds schedule in May 2022. 

This is the first time Uganda, the United States, and Canada have qualified for the T20 Men’s World Cup. The first match will be played between the United States and Canada on 1st June 2024 to kick off this exciting tournament.

T20 Men’s Cricket World Cup Format

Initially, the 20 qualifying teams will be divided into four five-team groups. After the round, the top 2 groups will qualify for the Super 8. At this tournament stage, teams will be divided into two groups of 4. Again, the top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals and then proceed to the finals.

Match Venues

A total of 55 matches will be played among the teams, distributed across nine venues. Six stadiums are located in the West Indies, and the rest are in the United States. Eight matches and the knockout stage matches will be played in the West Indies.

The Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final matches will be played in Guyana and Trinidad on 26 and 26 June, respectively, while the final will be played in Barbados on 29 June 2024.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Groups

This is the first time Scotland and Ireland qualified for the World Cup through Europe Qualifier, followed by Papua New Guinea from East Asia Pacific Qualifier. 

After that, in October 2023, Oman and Nepal qualified after reaching the finals of the Asia Qualifier. Later, Uganda and Namibia qualified for the World Cup after finishing the Africa Qualifier.

The group distribution for the T20 Men’s World Cup 2024 is as follows:

Group A

Group A includes Pakistan, India, Canada, Ireland, and the United States.

Group B

Group B teams are Australia, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, and England.

Group C

The West Indies, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand are in the Group C.

Group D

The teams Bangladesh, Nepal, the Netherlands, and South Africa are in Group D.
